Baked Double Chocolate Orange Doughnuts – Deliciously moist and fluffy chocolate doughnuts that are baked, infused with orange, and topped with a chocolate orange ganache!
Who doesn’t LOVE doughnuts? Especially when they are baked, chocolate, and orange flavoured, and topped with ganache and chocolate sprinkles!
Baked doughnuts are so much easier (and less messier!) to make than fried doughnuts, and they are much healthier, too. Which means we can have more than one at a time. 😉
Also, chocolate for breakfast!
How to make Baked Double Chocolate Orange Doughnuts
Ingredients you’ll need:
- Plain/all-purpose flour
- Baking powder
- Baking soda
- Cocoa powder
- Salt
- Zest of 1 large orange
- Ground nutmeg
- Orange juice
- Large egg
- Light brown sugar
- Greek-style yogurt
- Unsalted butter
For the glaze:
- Chocolate chips
- Unsalted butter
- Light corn syrup/golden syrup
- Orange juice
- Chocolate sprinkles, for topping
To make these doughnuts, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa powder, salt, nutmeg, and zest. Set aside.
Whisk together the orange juice, egg, sugar, yogurt, and melted butter until combined.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, and mix until just combined. Do not over-mix.
Spoon the batter into a greased doughnut pan and smooth out the tops. Bake for 5 – 7 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan for 5 – 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
For the glaze, simply place the chocolate chips, butter, and syrup in a heat-proof bowl, and microwave until completely melted and smooth, stirring every 20 seconds. Stir in the orange juice.
Dip each doughnut into the glaze, garnish with chocolate sprinkles, and leave to set on the wire rack.

NOTE: For best results, I highly recommend using the gram measurements (with a digital scale), rather than the cup measurements.
Cup measurements are simply not accurate enough, and I cannot guarantee the best results if you use them.

I took had issues with the batter being too thick and did not get 12 out of the recipe. I did not read all the comments before baking these but should have to get more tips.

Hi there....I made this recipe but had to add about 1/2 cup more liquid. I used the leftover juice and also added some milk. I cooked them for 15 minutes and they came out beautifully!! Thanks for the recipe share....so good.

The taste is great and love the glaze. My experience was that the batter was too dry. I had to add additional juice in order to combine dry and wet ingredients and was challenging getting into pan. Even with this additional liquid they came out dry. Perhaps I should have added something else in lieu of more juice...

Hi Tonya! The batter is quite thick, but spreadable. I can't really say why they came out really dry for you, but I can give a few tips for next time. Try using a little less flour, about 1 cup and check the consistency of the batter. Also, you could try using buttermilk or whole milk instead of Greek-style yoghurt. I hope this helps! :)
