These peppermint patties are so quick and easy to throw together, and only require 5 simple ingredients.

Ingredients you’ll need
Here’s a list of ingredients you’ll need to make these patties. You can find my recipe card at the bottom of this post for the complete list with their amounts.
- Sweetened condensed milk
- Peppermint extract
- Icing/powdered sugar
- Chocolate: You can use milk, dark, or semi-sweet.
- Vegetable oil
How to make Homemade Peppermint Patties
To make these patties, simply add the condensed milk to a large mixing bowl, and stir in the peppermint extract. Add the icing sugar and mix until a thick dough forms.
Roll the dough into 0.5oz balls and place them onto a large baking tray lined with parchment or wax paper. You may need to lightly coat your hands in icing sugar when rolling.
Press each dough ball into 1/4-inch thick circles. Freeze for 30 minutes.
Line a 12-hole muffin pan with muffin cases, and set aside.
Add the chocolate and vegetable oil to a large microwave-safe bowl, and heat in 30 second intervals, stirring after each one, until melted and smooth.
Add a teaspoon of melted chocolate to each muffin case, then place a patty in the middle. Top with another teaspoon or two of chocolate. Tap the tray on top of the surface to level out the chocolate. Refrigerate until completely set.
Repeat with the rest of the patties.
TIP: If the bowl of melted chocolate cools too much and begins to set, return to the microwave and heat for 20 – 30 seconds.
This recipe yields 60 – 70 patties. If you’d like to make less, you can easily halve the recipe.

NOTE: For best results, I highly recommend using the gram measurements (with a digital scale), rather than the cup measurements.
Cup measurements are simply not accurate enough, and I cannot guarantee the best results if you use them.

How long will these homemade peppermint patties last? These patties can be kept in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 – 2 weeks.
Can I freeze these peppermint patties? Yes! They freeze well for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before serving.

Ingredients
- 1 can (14oz/397g) sweetened condensed milk
- 2 teaspoons peppermint extract
- 5 cups (625g) icing/powdered sugar
- 30 oz (875g) chocolate (milk, dark, or semi-sweet), coarsely chopped
- 5 teaspoons vegetable oil
Instructions
- Line 2 - 3 large baking trays with parchment or wax paper, and set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix together the condensed milk and peppermint extract. Mix in the icing sugar until a thick dough forms.
- Roll the dough into 0.5oz balls (lightly coat your hands in icing sugar if needed), and place them onto the prepared baking trays. Press each ball into 1/4-inch thick circles. Freeze for 30 minutes.
- Line a muffin pan with muffin cases, and set aside.
- Add the chocolate and oil to a large microwave-safe bowl, and heat in 30 second intervals, stirring after each one, until melted and smooth.
- Add 1 teaspoon of melted chocolate into each muffin case, place a patty in the middle, then top with 1 - 2 teaspoons of more chocolate. Tap the tray on the surface serveral times to level out the chocolate.
- Refrigerate or freeze until the chocolate has set.
- Repeat with the rest of the patties. Return the melted chocolate to the microwave for 20 - 30 seconds if it cools too much, and begins to set.
Notes
Patties can be kept in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week. They also freeze well for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge.
This recipe can easily be halved if you need less patties.

Literally cannot stop DROOLING over how insanely good these look Marsha - I'm not even that big a fan of mint chocolate, but these sound way too good to pass up. And they sound so easy to make too! I'm sure they're also 50 million times better than storebought ones too! Perfect for serving at Xmas parties.
